Associate EditorOur editing process is a cooperative one, incorporating several rounds of edits from multiple editors. Associate Editors work closely with one to four writers over the course of the cycle, providing feedback during each of the three rounds of editing. Edits focus on argument, structure, grammar and flow. Associate Editors are not explicitly responsible for fact-checking—our Faculty Review Board does this—but definitely look for lapses in logic and question any assertions you think may be unfounded. Associate Editors are expected to attend our mandatory Writers and Editors Workshops held three times a semester. During these workshops, editors meet with writers to work on articles and answer questions.
The time commitment varies depending on the number of articles you are assigned, but is relatively light compared to writer commitments. AEs attend one-hour long workshops four times a semester and also edit at least three drafts of writer articles. Most AEs find they spend a few hours every couple of weeks on Triple Helix-related duties, which is generally a manageable workload. Later on this semester, we will also be sending out applications for the Managing Editor position to interested Associate Editors. The Managing Editor of The Triple Helix works with the Editor in Chief to organize, supervise and direct the production of the Science and Society in Review each semester. |
